Bone Densitometry

Like all other organs of the body, bones are constantly changing and some of these changes could result in osteoporosis. This is a condition where bones become weak to the point of breaking. Since symptoms do not occur until a great deal of bone strength is lost, it is a good idea for both men and women to have a bone density test performed. The test is painless, comfortable, easy and fast. It is also safe and there is no prior preparation needed. You can eat normally, with no injections or medication needed.

To schedule a bone density appointment, consult your physician about bone densitometry testing or call the specially trained personnel at ECMH using the following information:

CT Scanning

Computed Tomography, sometimes called a CAT Scan or CT Scan, uses special x-ray equipment to obtain image data from different angles around the body, and then uses computer processing of the information to show a cross-section of body tissues and organs. El Campo Memorial Hospital offers a state-of-the-art, G.E. Helical High-Speed Advantage CT unit.

Mammography

El Campo Memorial Hospital's mammography unit is an American College of Radiology accredited unit. Mammography is an imaging instrument used in the detection of tumors, fibrocystic disease, and breast cancer. Mammography is still your best chance for the detection of breast cancer - it's especially important to get a mammogram every year starting at age 40. Finding breast cancer early can save your life, and El Campo Memorial Hospital promotes Breast Cancer Awareness annually during the month of October.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine is a division within the field of radiology. It consists of diagnostic examinations that result in images of body anatomy and function. The images are developed based on the detection of energy emitted from a radioactive medication given to the patient, either intravenously or by mouth. Nuclear medicine images can assist the physician in diagnosing diseases, tumors and infection. Several disease and health problems that Nuclear Medicine can detect include:

Kidney function, heart function/blood flow, lung problems, blockage of the gallbladder, bone fractures, infection, arthritis or tumors, determine the presence or spread of cancer, identify bleeding into the bowel, locate infection and measure thyroid function to detect an overactive or underactive thyroid.
