Infusions & TransfusionsEl Campo Memorial Hospital offers infusion and transfusion services in their Ambulatory Day Surgery Department. With a physician order and business office approval, patients can schedule their infusion or transfusion at El Campo Memorial Hospital during Day Surgery hours, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Infusion therapy involves the administration of medication through a needle or catheter. It is prescribed when a patient's condition is so severe that it cannot be treated effectively by oral medications.
Some of the most common reasons for infusion therapy include cancer, chronic pain, dehydration, gastrointestinal (GI) problems, heart failure, immunodeficiency disorders, malnutrition, neuromuscular disorders and serious infections. Complex medical conditions like Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis can also be treated with specialty medications through infusion.
The infusion therapy always originates with a prescription order from a qualified physician who is overseeing the care of the patient.
